Clear Skies and Warm Weather Ahead for North Texas
North Texans Enjoy Summer: North Texas is in for a gorgeous stretch of weather as sunny skies and mild temperatures settle in across the region. Thursday will bring plenty of sunshine with highs climbing into the upper 70s, making for a perfect fall day.
This dry and pleasant pattern will continue through the weekend, with temperatures gradually rising above seasonal averages. By Saturday and Sunday, afternoon highs are expected to reach the mid-80s — a warm reminder that fall in Texas often feels a bit like summer.
Rain chances remain low for now, with the next opportunity for showers likely arriving late Monday into Tuesday as a new weather system approaches.
Northern Lights Possible Across Parts of the U.S. — Even in Texas
In addition to the warm and clear skies, stargazers in North Texas may have a rare opportunity to witness the northern lights this week. A strong geomagnetic storm is forecast to reach Earth’s atmosphere on Wednesday, potentially creating vivid auroral displays across much of the northern United States.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has issued a G4 (severe) geomagnetic storm watch following several coronal mass ejections (CMEs) from the sun — massive bursts of solar plasma that can interact with Earth’s magnetic field.
While such storms can disrupt GPS systems, satellites, and power grids, they can also produce spectacular auroras. NOAA reports that this week’s solar activity could make the northern lights visible as far south as Alabama and Northern California. In fact, several North Texans already reported catching glimpses of the aurora on Tuesday night.
According to forecasts from the University of Alaska and the Space Weather Prediction Center, the best viewing window began around 10 p.m. ET Tuesday and continued until about 1 a.m. Wednesday.
During that period, “highly active auroral displays” were likely in cities such as Portland (Oregon), Cheyenne (Wyoming), and New York City. Even areas farther south — including Oklahoma City and Raleigh, North Carolina — may have seen faint colors near the horizon.
So, while the days ahead promise sunshine and warmth, North Texans might also want to keep their eyes on the night sky — a dazzling northern light show could make this week one to remember.
